WHY I SERVE
"As mayor, I am working to promote the values and ideals that have helped Carrboro become one of the most progressive and forward thinking communities in North Carolina.”
WHY I LOVE CARRBORO
"My favorite thing about Carrboro is the Carrboro Music Festival – I think it is the best day of the year in our town."
Mayor Lydia Lavelle, born in Athens, Ohio, has a bachelor’s degree from St. Andrews (formerly College) University, a master’s degree in parks and recreation administration from North Carolina State University, and a law degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, where she currently works as an assistant law professor. After being elected to the Carrboro Board of Aldermen in 2007 and 2011, she was elected as mayor in November of 2013. Mayor Lavelle is a member of the Metropolitan Mayors Coalition, and serves as the board liaison to Carrboro’s Appearance Commission.
