Vermicomposting
Vermicomposting is great way to compost if you have limited outdoor space or live in an apartment or condominium. Vermicomposting uses earthworms, usually red wigglers, to turn organic waste into high quality compost consisting of worm castings, uneaten bedding, and feedstock harvested from worm beds. Vermicomposting kits can be purchased in stores, online, or you can make your own.
You can make your own Vermicomposting kit with the following list of supplies and tools or purchase a kit from a retailer:
- One 14 – 20 gallon plastic storage tub with a lid
- A drill and drill bit (any size close to ½ inch)
- LOTS of shredded newspaper (way more than you think!)
- A bucket of water
- ½ - 1 pound (or more) of Red Wigglers (Eisenia Fetida is the scientific name).
