Gary Phillips

Gary PhillipsGary Phillips is the 2016-2018 poet laureate of Carrboro, North Carolina. He is a writer, naturalist, and entrepreneur. Gary has a special interest and expertise in conservation easements and other land-protective strategies. He co-founded Weaver Street Realty and has kept an office in downtown Carrboro for over thirty years. He lives in a rammed earth house with his wife, Ilana Dubester.  Gary avidly reads poetry and anthropological science fiction, studies amphibian activities on full moon nights, and was once chair of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners. His book of poetry and occasional pieces, The Boy The Brave Girls, will be printed by Human Error Publishing (Wendell, Massachusetts) in the summer of 2016. Gary is a member of the Carrboro Poets Council.
